Position Summary
The Senior Sign Shop Operator performs skilled work in the operation of university signage services for CMU Printing Services. This position will operate a variety of equipment and utilize software related to signage operations. This position will also assist on installations, manage projects, and maintain equipment.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
Two years of experience in the signage industry.
Experience running and troubleshooting sign-making hardware.
Ability to work from blueprints and specifications.
Demonstrated ability to follow and/or interpret oral and written directions.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to complete multiple assignments simultaneously.
Familiarity with signage software applications.
Ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image.
Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding.
Willingness to cross train co-workers in all duties and responsibilities.
Ability to move from one machine to another and operate with ease.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree or equivalent education.
Ariel Lift Certification.
Familiarity with the CMU branding guidelines.
Knowledge of substrates, materials, and coatings common to the signage industry.
Proficient in spelling and language usage.
Familiarity with the American Disabilities Act as it pertains to signage.
Duties & Responsibilities
Utilizes skills to perform installations of:
-Interior room/wayfinding signage.
-Exterior street/directional/wayfinding signage.
-Interior/exterior murals/wall graphics/vehicle wraps/athletic field wraps.
Communicates effectively with customers/departments to determine signage needs.
Designs signage and determines specifications for production.
Stays up to date on material costs.
Maintains material and tool inventories.
Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoots/repairs equipment.
Performs continuous quality control oversight of the output of signage orders.
Operates a variety of signage equipment.
Supervises/trains student employees.
Assists in the Copy Center, Bulk Mailing, and Press Operation areas when needed. This includes preparing orders for pick up or delivery, delivering orders, and organization and file setup.
Maintains a proper storage environment and placement of signage materials by keeping materials organized and placed in the proper position to avoid any material waste.
Performs other duties within Printing Services as assigned.
