Job Summary:
The Telecommunications Laborer will assist with both fiber optic network installation and underground construction tasks. This role includes supporting Fiber Optic Technicians with splicing, terminating, and testing fiber optic cables, as well as assisting in underground conduit and cable placement. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and capable of working in various outdoor conditions. On-the-job training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist Fiber Optic Technicians with splicing, terminating, and testing fiber optic cables.
- Troubleshoot fiber optic network issues and perform necessary repairs.
- Operate and maintain test equipment and tools for continuous use.
- Support underground construction efforts, including trenching, placing conduit and cables, installing pedestals, vaults, and anchors.
- Hand dig with shovels, picks, and digging bars to access underground vaults and complete trenching tasks.
- Restore worksites by refilling trenches, tamping soil, and replacing disturbed plants or pavement.
- Operate construction equipment safely when required and authorized.
- Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of company vehicles and equipment.
- Work effectively as part of a team and follow safety regulations at all times.
- Travel and overnight stays may be required.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in fiber optic installation or underground utility construction will garner higher starting pay but is not required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read construction drawings and follow specifications.
- Basic computer skills (email, Google Suite).
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- CDL will garner higher starting pay but is not required.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 75 lbs., crouching, kneeling, and working in all weather conditions.
Job Type & Compensation:
- Job Type: Full-time
- Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
- Opportunity for a raise within 3-6 months after a performance evaluation.
