Under the direction of Principal Investigators, the Research Manager will provide scientific and technical assistance, as well as guidance to research staff. Maintaining privacy, security, and ethical use of data within regulatory requirements, while managing the funding budgets, is of utmost importance.The Research Manager will prioritize developing and implementing strategic research protocols to ensure that PALM can meet the evolving needs of researchers and other customers, while also facilitating employed pathologists to apply for vendor-sponsored research funding. This individual will navigate disparate information systems, while serving as a subject matter expert and honest broker, for data extraction; collection, processing, storage, annotation, and distribution of biosamples.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Manages laboratory operations of the Core/Stat Laboratory at Henry Ford Hospital with particular
focus on Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Laboratory support Services, Chemistry, and
LEAN principles. Ensures accrediting, regulatory, and customer service standards are met.
Responsible for human resources, budget planning, supply chain, and information technology.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general direction from medical and administrative leaders, manages laboratory
operations of the Core/Stat Laboratory and Laboratory Support Services at Henry Ford
Hospital to meet the rapid response needs of customers. Provides leadership to maintain focus
on service standards, turnaround time, and critical value reporting.
Recruits, orients, and evaluate, staff including supervisors, technical staff and support staff.
Ensures systems are in place and action is taken to assess competency, performance, provide
training, coaching and development of talent, and corrective action as needed.
Prepares capital and operating budgets and monitors current period budgets to evaluate
variances for remediation and communication of changes.
Oversees quality management, quality control, and customer service practices to meet
accrediting and regulatory requirements and to further objectives of HFHS. Follows-up on
customer service issues in a timely manner.
Plans and attends meetings to coordinate operations, improve quality, and plan services as
needed. As a leader demonstrates the ability to anticipate customer needs and technical
requirements.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor of Science Degree
6 years in a CAP accredited hospital clinical laboratory with progressive responsibility including experience at a supervisory or equivalent level.
Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills.
Demonstrates a contemporary level of technical and operating knowledge in the technical disciplines to be managed.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 10 years in a CAP accredited hospital clinical laboratory with progressive responsibility including
experience at a supervisory or equivalent level
