Job Summary
The Supervisor, Security Investigations supports the Sr. Director, Corewell Health Security Services in the proper and efficient operation of the department's assigned duties. Preparation of staff research and reports; and the coordination and management of programs and projects for his/her staff. Responds to emergency situations, critical incidents, deadly force situations, call for service and other requests for assistance.This position is an armed uniformed and/or plain clothed role that will lead a team of security investigators in the performance of conducting security investigations involving internal and external customers to achieve favorable outcomes for Corewell Health.
Essential Functions
Review incidents in which Police Authority is utilized to arrest for both felonies and misdemeanors on designated Corewell Health properties under Michigan Law (PA 330).
May be required to possess, carry, and utilize firearms, tasers, and other weapons in conjunction with the MCOLES force continuum as determined by Corewell Health policy.
Coordinates investigative action with law enforcement agencies, private security organizations, or governmental agencies such as the IRS, FBI, ATF, DEA, U.S. Postal Service, MSP, local police, etc. to determine the existence of criminal conduct and/or violations of BHSH System policy and procedures.
Prepares documentation of investigative findings obtained through interrogations or interviewing techniques. Review video and documentation. Prepares related summaries and reports as required. Forwards findings and recommendations to appropriate individuals. Testifies at legal proceedings pertaining to internal, civil, or criminal activities as indicated.
Assigns investigator review of all incident reports and plans/ schedules follow up action or investigations as required and determines the circulation of incident reports within the Corewell Health.
Directs the investigation of lost and found property, background checks, criminal and civil complaints, and other types as assigned duties.
Assesses healthcare environment for security and safety hazards which could harm patients, visitors, or employees and reports on such hazards verbally and in writing.
Develops and implements crime prevention programs within BHSH System.
Responsible for collection and disposition of all safekeeping property (Escheatment), evidence, found property. Handle property disposition and audit on a monthly basis.
Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field, including best practices, to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Suggests policy, performs follow-up, assists with investigation of crimes and communicates with the Sr. Director, Corewell Health Security Services, as needed. Must obtain and maintain a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) and successfully complete advanced firearms training within 6 months.
Completes performance appraisals within the time period established by the organization. Monitors security investigator employee performance and takes action when appropriate.
Coordinates requests for service, information, records, and data in the area of responsibility. The Supervisor, Security Investigations assists with investigations, consultations, and training activities for department customers. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships within the organization. Interacts with clinical staff, patients, family members, and visitors and assures that communication is effective.
Lead the team of investigators and other security team members in the efforts of threat analysis and in supporting threat management teams, particularly in situations involving workplace violence.
Assist the leadership team in the evaluation and analysis of reports on criminal matters with the goal of identifying trends, more effectively allocating security resources, and reporting out to hospital leadership.
