Job Title: Patient Advocacy Specialist

Position Summary:
The Specialist, Patient Advocacy reports to the Executive Director, Patient Advocacy within the Public Affairs function and plays a critical role in supporting the company's patient advocacy operational success, external partnerships, and program support. This role is responsible for providing strategic project management, stakeholder engagement, and operational leadership across Patient Advocacy. Additionally, this position will provide key support for the Rare Kidney Disease (RKD) and Classical Homocystinuria (HCU) programs, ensuring strong cross functional engagement with colleagues and advocacy groups, to advance the company's commitment to addressing unmet needs in rare diseases.
Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership:
* Provide project-based support to the Advocacy Team, assisting with:
o Contract management, invoicing, and process flow with external parties
o Follow-ups and program close-outs for Advisory Board Meetings, ensuring compliance with internal processes and external regulatory requirements
o Tracking and reporting on advocacy budgets, grants, and program expenditures to support annual planning and financial oversight
* Coordinate the charitable grants process for patient advocacy, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
o Day to day oversight of the Advocacy Grants portal, Cybergrants
o Preparation of meeting documents, post meeting approvals, and timely grant fulfillment.
* Ensure all advocacy initiatives are aligned with regulatory guidelines and industry best practices.
Strategic Project & Event Management:
* Oversee the planning and execution of virtual and in-person advocacy events, including:
o Advisory boards
o Roundtable discussions
o RDPAC Meetings
o Task force meetings
o Conferences, exhibition booths, and networking events
* Lead agenda development, contract management, and honorarium processing for key advocacy initiatives.
* Provide on-site support at select advocacy events to ensure seamless execution and stakeholder engagement.
* Support the Rare Disease Patient Advisory Council, fostering patient insights and partnerships to enhance company initiatives.
Communications & Process Improvement:
* Assist with drafting and refining presentations, policies, and procedures to enhance the impact of advocacy initiatives.
* Identify and implement process improvements to drive efficiency across Patient Advocacy.
* Support the development of educational materials, briefings, and strategic reports for senior leadership and key stakeholders
Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement:
* Support the HCU and RKD Patient Advocacy leads with strategic initiatives, patient community engagement, and advocacy-related projects.
* Provide research, content development, and project management support for special initiatives, policy engagement, and advocacy-driven programs.
Education/Experience Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in related Life Sciences discipline. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered.
* 2+ years of experience in an administrative or operational role, experience working in pharma, biotech, healthcare, or a related field is preferred.

* Experience managing grants, contracts, and budget-related processes in a regulated environment.
* Experience with Cybergrants platform is a plus.
* Meeting, event, and conference planning background, requiring attention to detail and proactive communication skills, including engagement with key opinion leaders.
* Familiarity with patient advocacy, rare disease, and healthcare policy.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships with patient advocacy groups, healthcare professionals, and internal stakeholders.
* Ability to travel 15% domestically
* All positions have an essential job function to be able to perform face to face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego. No role is expected to be 100% remote.
