Position Summary:
The Sport Management Division within the Department of Physical Education & Sport seeks to hire a full-time, ten month fixed-term faculty position. The anticipated start date is August 18, 2025. This position is open until filled. The successful candidate will teach courses in the Sport Management undergraduate program, and graduate level courses in the department’s Masters in Sport Administration, depending on education and experience.
We are seeking applicants with teaching and industry experience in one or more of the sport management core content areas. Fixed-term faculty members are expected to teach courses that equate to 12-credit loads per semester. Courses will be assigned that reflect the candidate’s education and expertise. Additional tasks may be assigned by areas of expertise or department needs.
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in sport management or relevant field.
• Evidence of successful teaching at the collegiate level.
• 3 years of industry experience in leadership roles related to sport management or a similar field.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a team and collaborate across disciplines, earning trust and mutual respect.
• Demonstrated leadership and collaborative skills.
• Effective oral/written communication skills.
• Proficient in technology use.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Terminal degree in sport management or relevant field (e.g., PhD, EdD, JD, or similar degree).
• 5 years of industry experience.
• Experience teaching online, developing new courses, and integrating experiential learning into the curriculum.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and cultivate partnerships with alumni, businesses, and organizations in the sport management industry, so as to build strong academic-practice partnerships and productive channels for faculty and student recruitment.
• Demonstrated strong marketing and recruiting skills, and ability to develop new and innovative courses, credentials, or programs.
• Experience in the assessment process of academic programs.
• Superior communication skills, as evidenced in work teaching, leading an organization, and representing programs to donors, policymakers, and other academics.

The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions consists of five academic units (Department of Physical Therapy, Department of Physical Education and Sport, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the School of Health Sciences, and the School of Rehabilitation and Medical Science). The CMU Health and Physical Education program is an undergraduate four-year program that prepares teaching candidates with a major in K-12 Health and Physical Education. The program is growing, having doubled the number of majors over the past five years, and boasts the highest pass rate among first-time test takers on Michigan’s Test for Teacher Certification over the past three years. Students within the program are heavily recruited and hired upon graduation. The program is intentional about preparing pre-service teachers to equip K-12 students with the skills to stay active, fit, and healthy throughout life.
