Description We are in search of an Accounts Payable Specialist to become an integral part of our legal team in Detroit, Michigan. This role will involve a range of financial tasks with an emphasis on managing accounts payable. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of all accounts payable transactions and maintaining up-to-date records.
Responsibilities
Handle the processing of all accounts payable invoices and fulfill payment requests
Ensure the efficient, accurate, and confidential management of financial information
Conduct regular reviews and updates of company and vendor records
Manage the preparation and mailing of vendor checks during the weekly checks run
Reconcile accounts payable transactions on a monthly basis
Assist in the closing activities at the end of each month
Handle vendor or supplier queries related to invoice payments
Follow established company procedures for processing various types of invoices and bills
Prepare and maintain daily and monthly reports of accounts payable transactions
Oversee the matching, batching, and coding of invoices and their entry into the system Requirements - A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Proven experience as an Accounts Payable Specialist within the legal industry.
Proficiency in using Accounts Payable (AP) software and related tools.
Strong understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable principles.
Proven ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records.
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Excellent data entry skills along with a knack for numbers.
Hands-on experience in operating spreadsheets and accounting software (JDE or other full-scale ER software).
Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and strong mathematical skills.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical and time management skills.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Understanding of confidentiality obligations and laws related to the finance sector.
Familiarity with general legal procedures and terminologies is a plus.
