DIGITAL STRATEGIST

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Web & Digital Strategy, the Digital Strategist position provides leadership, consultation, advice, and project management to academic and administrative units across campus. Each Digital Strategist has a portfolio of institutional clients to manage and collaborate with to ensure adherence to CMU brand alignment and the development of robust, engaging content. This position will help create a cohesive user experience and provide support to campus content publishers.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in digital media, marketing, communications, journalism, design or related field.
One year of relevant experience.
Experience working cross-functionally within a team.
Experience working with an enterprise-class content management system or digital experience platform.
Experience leading internal and external client presentations.
Demonstrated understanding of digital strategy, design, production, and project management, as well as digital marketing and accessibility.
Ability to translate complex and varied inputs including data, user research, strategic direction, and broad industry research into compelling stories and actionable web content in order to identify feasible options and evaluate strategic trade-offs.
Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple initiatives and projects simultaneously.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with some project management experience.
Proven ability to operate with a strategic mindset with outstanding program management skills and the ability to track multiple project deliverables and thrive in a complex, dynamic environment.
Ability to demonstrate a strong customer service focus, including interpersonal skills, courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude.
Strong critical thinking, analytical, and creative talent skills and ability to develop a concept, idea, or content into a strong visual presentation that maximizes marketing effectiveness.
Ability to effectively present conceptual solutions to key stakeholders and team members.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing, grammar, and proofreading skills.
Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of relevant work experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Documents development tasks for content and creative work with appropriate context as needed; this includes all current and historical data necessary to populate appropriate areas of the website.
Provides an accurate level of effort estimates based on business requirements.
Works with a portfolio of institutional clients to build, maintain, and enhance vital web properties that reflect CMU’s brand and follow best practices for digital communications.
Works with clients to develop solutions to emerging site needs and to solve site-related issues.
Meets with clients to plan the strategy for new web pages or web sections to ensure that each page has a clear audience, purpose, owner, and review cycle.
Provides consultation on best practices in information architecture, writing for the web, and accessibility.
Manages the development or acquisition of new assets (photo, video, illustration) for client sites.
Manages processes for regular content review of key pages and ensures all pages are reviewed on a regular schedule.
Organizes and collects content from clients, including outreach and consultation with faculty and staff to develop content.
Provides content review and remediation, as well as publishing support, as needed.
Provides initial orientation and training for new page editors.
Provides insights on website analytics on a monthly basis.
Runs and shares web maintenance reports (e.g. broken link reports) on a monthly basis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
