General Summary
Engage@EMU provides graduate students in programs (and concentrations) such as Public Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Communication, Management, Arts Management and HESA a robust graduate assistantship in the areas of research, instruction/training, management, and community engagement. The Engage assistantship allows graduate students to both initiate and manage community based programs and training. It allows a graduate student in the aforementioned programs grant writing and grant management experience, management of personnel, instructional practice for both student and staff, institutional and community evaluation
and assessment, program management, and the use of research in grant development and implementation.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Engage suite events, retreats, community impact, community service and academic service-learning evaluation for reports and self-studies such as the Carnegie Classification, Campus Compact, and the Higher Learning Commission.
- Coordination of the annual and/or bi-annual AS-L faculty fellow seminar and coordination and continuous oversight of faculty community based learning projects internally or externally funded.
- Support for any academic engagement institute, workshop or conference including Intergenerational, Alternative Credential and Advanced AS-L initiatives.
- Support and coordination for Academic Service-Learning courses and co-training of faculty/staff in community based learning. The GA will manage and/or co-facilitate community partnerships for many faculty and AS-L courses throughout the year. Provides administrative support to the fall and winter faculty seminars through identification and preparation of seminar literature in concert
with faculty participants.
- Management and oversight of AS-L grant projects and other related AS-L grants (e.g. Bright Futures, Family Empowerment Program) for and with faculty.
- Support and coordinate other academic engagement programs overseen by Engage.
- Support (writing and editing) monthly newsletter, maintenance of all social media related to Engage and oversight of web page with Engage Operations and Communications Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Background in project management.
- Interest and experience working in community and academic engagement
