Position Summary: Plans, implements, and evaluates activities to meet the various needs and interests of our residents. Is responsible for each resident to have the opportunity for educational and social activities within their own ability on a daily basis. Supervises and provides services to assist all residents to attain and maintain their highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop, supervise, direct, and organize an ongoing program of group, independent, and one-to-one activities for residents in the facility, while monitoring the work of assigned staff and volunteers.
- Assure the preparation of a monthly and annual activity calendar based on the assessed needs and interests of residents.
- Plan and maintain department budget, assuring budgetary compliance.
- Evaluate care plans for residents and participate in care conferences as needed.
- Advocate for residents right to leisure/recreation, and the maintenance/improvement of functional abilities through programming.
- Assist in daily functions of department such as ordering and purchasing supplies, inventory, cleaning.
- Coordinate and maintain resident / family relations and support groups including resident council.
- Collaborate with the Administrator to develop short- and long-term departmental goals and objectives based on the philosophy and goals of Resthaven.
- Collaboratively manages the day-to-day activities, operations and staff of Life Enrichment.
- Participates in staff interviews, new employee orientation and on-boarding, and staff coaching/counseling.
- Provides supervision to all staff through daily program oversight, supervisory and annual performance evaluations.
- Assures services are carried out according to policy and best practice guidelines.
- Serves on various organizational committees/teams.
- Facilitates and/or attends staff meetings and in-service programs.
- Collaboratively implements programming with recreational therapy aides.
- Demonstrate effective and professional communication and listening skills.
- Professionally represents Resthaven and interacts with community members while demonstrating a genuine commitment to the mission of Resthaven Community.
- Attends seminars, meetings and educational opportunities to stay current with latest developments and trends in the market place as deemed appropriate.
- Assumes all other position related responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Effective and written communication skills including the ability to speak, read and write English in a clear and understandable manner.
- Ability to supervise other RT staff, volunteers and/or clergy.
- Must be able to work and problem solve independently.

- Must have the physical and visual abilities to use a computer, with or without adaptive devices.

- Demonstrate ability to positively coach/teach, supervise and lead the operations and assigned responsibilities while creating a cohesive work environment with a diverse team of professionals.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with staff, clients, families, and physicians both verbally and in writing within professional boundaries.
Education, Training, Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Recreational Therapy.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in recreational therapy, activities, social work, or human services.
- Experience with special populations required. Practical experience working with seniors and experience working in long term care preferred. Possess basic knowledge of health care and medical issues, as well as disabilities and diagnoses.
- Previous supervisory and team experience.
Required Licenses, Registration, and/or Certifications:
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
Nonessential Responsibilities:
- Operate standard office equipment including computer, fax machine, copy machine, etc.
- Practice the highest standards of ethics, honesty, and accuracy.
- Understand and support Resthaven policies and procedures.
- Flexible schedule with available to a rotating weekend schedule and nighttime activities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, residents, physicians, Board of Trustee, residents’ families, and the public.

- The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must have ability to make presentations to large and small groups.
- Requires occasional off-schedule meetings and/or events along with some weekend work. On-call availability to address work problems and emergency situations as required.
Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, there are no extreme temperatures or working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May experience fluctuating temperatures when attending events. The work environment is shared at times between the normal office environment and the resident care environment with minimum exposure to infection/disease with the use of standard precautions.
