The City of Wayne is accepting applications for Police Officer Recruit (Police Academy Sponsorship).
This position is for non-licensed applicants. Candidates who are hired for this position
will be sent to a 17-week Michigan Police Academy.
Upon successful completion of the Police Academy, the recruit will be promoted to entry
level Police Officer and must complete the City of Wayne Police Department’s
Field Training Officer program.
Qualifications include at a minimum:
a. Must be a U.S. citizen, 21 years or older at time of graduation from the academy.
b. Associate Degree required upon graduation of police academy. Must provide documentation.
c. Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving history.
d. No felony convictions and/or disqualifying criminal history.
e. Possess good moral character as determined by a favorable, comprehensive, and extensive background investigation covering school and employment records, home environment, and personal traits and integrity.
f. Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on an overtime basis.
g. Ability to successfully pass background investigation, psychological evaluation, interview process and drug/alcohol screen.
h. Must take and pass the EMPCO test to be considered for employment and provide proof of successful completion at the time of application.

i. Must have passed the M.C.O.L.E.S reading, writing and physical fitness tests and
provide proof of successful completion at the time of application.
j. You must be available for the entire training academy and pass the MCOLES State Licensing Exam for police officers at the end of the academy.
