GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Coding and Documentation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operational activities within their assigned department. They play a vital role in ensuring productivity and financial goals are met by the individual employees, department, and the entire Revenue Cycle team as an aggregate.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees daily operational activities, including scheduling and coordinating work assignments.
Responsible for hiring, training, and performance management.
Responsible for the development and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures.
Coaches employees and initiates corrective action when necessary.
Ensures all departmental assigned Work Queues are worked timely, appropriately and follow established policies and procedures.
Effectively monitors and maintains acceptable levels of Work Queue volumes; including Pre-AR, Charge Review, Claim Edit and Follow-up.
Continuously works to improve the revenue cycle process, maximize reimbursement and makes recommendations for problem solving as needed.
Performs regular quality assurance, ensures quality and productivity standards are met.
Coordinates, prepares, and presents educational materials to staff, providers and clinicians as needed.
10.Assists with any coding related payor audits.
11.Ensures adherence to third-party and governmental regulations relating to coding, documentation, compliance, and reimbursement.
12.Assists Manager with Annual Budget creation and adherence throughout the fiscal year.
13.Works collaboratively with other Coding Departments, PFS, Billing, Helios, Audit & Compliance, providers, and clinical staff as necessary.
14.Serves as a specialty resource for all other departments.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Associates degree (Business Administration or related field) or equivalent combination of at least 3 years financial and medical billing/coding experience.
Bachelor's Degree (Business or Healthcare Administration or related field), preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years financial, medical billing or coding experience with one (1) year in a lead role or supervisory experience.
Highly developed communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with staff.
Analytical ability necessary to conduct basic research, analyze and interpret data, evaluate processes, and propose improvements.
Ability to supervise, coordinate, and lead simultaneously.
Ability to estimate time frames and meet projected deadlines.
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to provide effective leadership to departmental personnel and to develop and maintain a wide variety of internal and external cooperative working relationships.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to understand and lead change.
High energy, goal oriented, exceptional interpersonal skills, change management and political skill.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
- At least one of the following certifications required: CPC, CCS, CCP, CCA, RHIT or RHIA. Additional Specialty Certifications preferred.
