Position Title: Automotive Lab Technician

Status: Part-Time (20 hours/week, 52 weeks/year)
Starting Salary: $17.02 – $18.88 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience
Location: On-Site - University Center, MI
Position Summary
The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion in students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities and Duties
Lab Support
- Independently organize, repair, and maintain automotive labs, equipment, tools, vehicles, and components for use by automotive students.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks on a rotating basis for the automotive lab’s equipment and evaluate equipment functionality.
- Track vehicle and component utilization to maximize downtime and minimize repetitive use, reducing damage from overuse.
- Assemble automotive systems and training aides using hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Maintain an inventory of automotive supplies, components, vehicles, and equipment.
Faculty/Resource Support
- Communicate regularly with faculty, the learning resource manager, and the learning resource technician to assist in identifying repair parts and vendors for automotive programs.
- Coordinate with faculty to train student workers on completing preventative maintenance tasks specific to automotive labs.
Student Experience Support
- Work with faculty to offer open lab time for students.
- Foster an empowering, supportive, and inclusive environment that promotes student and program success.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in a relevant technical area OR two (2) years of completed college-level coursework (60+ credit hours) OR an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- State of Michigan Mechanics License required.
- Self-directed and highly motivated in completing assignments correctly and on time.
Additional Experiences Considered
- ASE Certification preferred.
- At least two years of relevant experience in the automotive repair field.
- Ability to work with a diverse population.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in technology, including:
- Personal computers
- Microsoft Office products
- Internet research and online resources
