Work Schedule: 8:45 AM - 1:00 PM
SUMMARY
To assist in the preparation, serving, and transportation of nutritious, high-quality food to students in a quick and pleasant manner, served in a clean and pleasant atmosphere. To perform cleaning tasks in the assigned food service area. Responsible for the overall supervision of the food service operation at the assigned satellite building(s).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide daily information required for production records, as applicable to assigned duties.
- Portion and serve meals to students in a quick and pleasant manner.
- Transport, prepare, and serve food and other materials between the production site and assigned satellite building(s), if applicable.
- Maintain sanitation standards at both the production site and satellite building(s).
- Assist with quantity food preparation and food assembly as needed.
- Assist with daily cleaning of the assigned satellite kitchen(s), production kitchen, and all kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
- Set up and break down service lines at assigned sites.
- Work collaboratively to build teamwork and cooperation within the department.
- Order and receive all food and supplies delivered directly to assigned satellite building(s).
- Record and maintain monthly inventory of all food and supplies in assigned satellite kitchen(s).
- Report any food spoilage to the production kitchen.
- Assist the Building Food Service Supervisor in ordering food and non-food supplies for both the production site and assigned satellite building(s).
- Work as a team member with all kitchen staff.
- Advise the Building Food Service Supervisor of any maintenance, repair, or replacement needs for equipment or utensils at the satellite building(s) and production site.
- Report any safety concerns to the Food Service Supervisor immediately.
- Exhibit reliability, punctuality, dependability, honesty, and self-motivation.
- Represent the school district positively and professionally.
- Provide training and effectively utilize student helpers in a safe manner in the food service area.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in large-scale cooking and food preparation/serving preferred.
- Basic knowledge of food service operations, including food preparation, dietary standards, and record-keeping.
- Basic knowledge of all applicable Federal, State, and Local Food Service regulations and Board of Education policies.
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License and good personal driving record required.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the tasks listed within the position description.
- Meets Required Training Standards for School Nutrition Program Staff.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, customers, co-workers, and other employees.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.
- Ability to multiply and divide using 10s and 100s.
- Ability to perform calculations using weight, volume, and distance measurements.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions.
- Ability to solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand.
- Frequently required to bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing job duties.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and perform repetitive hand/arm/finger motions.
- Required to responsibly operate the district’s delivery vehicle lift for loading and off-loading carts and equipment.
- Occasionally required to lift and move up to 40 pounds (e.g., milk crates, frozen foods, canned goods).
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color vision.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Occasionally works in temperatures above 100 degrees.
- Occasionally works on slippery surfaces.
- Must meet deadlines under time constraints while interacting with students, staff, the public, and other workers.
- Noise levels are frequently loud, requiring raised voices for communication.
- Increased risk of minor injuries, such as cuts or burns, while performing job duties.
