ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/DEVELOPMENT/COLLEGE OF MEDICINE & COLLEGE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS

Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Development for the College of Medicine and College of Health Professions is responsible for developing strong relationships with current and prospective donors of the university for the purpose of securing gifts to support the units annual and major gift fundraising operations in coordination with the larger development team. These efforts may include, but are not limited to annual giving, major gift development, corporate and foundation relations, and planned gift identification and advancement. The Assistant Director has the responsibility to raise upwards of $250,000 annually. This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Advancement and Campaign Strategies and works collaboratively with university leadership, development colleagues, and other university partners.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Relevant work experience in sales, marketing, fundraising or related fields.
Demonstrated ability to build donor/customer relationships that lead to successful outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to successfully conduct in-person sales calls/fundraising solicitations.
Demonstrated ability to develop written proposals for customers/donors and a willingness to assist other staff with their business plans as needed.
Excellent interpersonal and persuasive verbal and written communication skills including projecting a positive and professional attitude.
Proficiency with Microsoft e-mail, excel, word, and online applications.
Must possess, or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license.
Ability to meet travel requirements, including air and vehicle travel.
Must be able to lift and carry files and promotional materials.
Must be willing to work evening and/or weekend hours as necessary.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Higher education experience.
Fundraising experience closing annual or major gifts upwards of $100,000 and more.
Experience working with academic and administrative leadership.
Experience in leveraging the advantages of social media, virtual presentation methods, and website resources to make connections and build relationships.
Experience with proposal development and/or grant writing.
Experience with prospect relationship development/management and/or other similar client development principles and techniques.
Ability to plan and execute a fundraising project from conception to realization.
Proficient in the use of data to develop performance measurements, show portfolio growth and project gift yield.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Utilizes the Advancement alumni/donor database (CRM ), with support from the larger development and research team, to actively engage with a portfolio of donors and prospects with the goals of raising major gifts and building a pipeline of future major donors.
Helps identify and facilitate initiatives that drive donor support for strategic priorities.
Leverages social media and virtual communication tools to build relationships with constituents.
Develops qualification and cultivation strategies and solicitation plans for assigned prospects with the support of the larger development and research teams.
Consistently meets deadlines and follows standard operating administrative protocols.
Participates with professional development opportunities and makes efforts to stay current with industry best practices.
Remains knowledgeable of current events throughout the university and communities CMU serves.
Helps leverage volunteer structures to assist with fundraising activities.
Assists with the development and implementation of specific development efforts to support the priorities of the Colleges of Education and Human ~Services, Arts and Media, and the Libraries, while coordinating with the larger development team.
Tracks and reports progress using specific metrics and business plans.
Works to meet or exceed annual goals set by Advancement leadership, including:
- Executing upwards of 20 outbound touchpoints weekly including but not limited to calls, emails, texts, and visits/meetings with donors (both in-person and virtual).
- Building an active portfolio of upwards of 120 donors capable of making a leadership annual or major gift within a three-year period.
- Raising upwards of $250,000 annually from portfolio.
Participates in university and divisional activities and committees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
