GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under minimal supervision, the Principal Management Engineer performs project work of a complex nature. Project work may include technical analyses or may require facilitation of a large multi-disciplinary group of senior administrators and/or medical leaders. The Principal Consultant may work individually, as lead consultant of a project team, or in a consulting capacity for projects not directly assigned. Performs analyses related to area of technical expertise and may train other staff members in these areas.
The Principal Management Engineer serves as a technical consultant to other Henry Ford Health departments, prepares reports and recommendations for management, and coordinates implementation whenever possible. The Principal Management Engineer may supervise tasks of Consultants, Senior Consultants or Analysts. They communicate regularly with Senior Management on specific projects.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts review of organization and functional areas on a project basis; acts as project lead for individual or team projects.
Serves as facilitator of multi-disciplinary project teams; guides teams through complex process/function changes.
Provides consulting advice to top administrative and medical management.
Documents current systems and operations.
Analyzes client systems, procedures, and operations and identifies opportunities for improvement.
Assists in the implementation of revised or new methods.
Prepares written and verbal presentations of findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Guides junior analysts in performing operations analysis and decision support activities.
Identifies internal staff development needs and opportunities for improvement or enhancement of staff skills.
As project lead, have the following additional responsibilities:
1) Developing and defining project scope and objectives,
2) Developing and refining project work plan,
3) Guiding day-to-day activities of the project team,
4) Supplying periodic project updates to client and to Director,
5) Preparing project management reports, and
6) Coordinating the written and verbal presentation of findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
A degree in industrial or related engineering, nursing, business administration (w/quality/operations improvement emphasis), healthcare administration (w/quality/operations improvement emphasis), organizational development, human factors or similar field preferred.
Master's Degree preferred.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience required. Equivalent industry training and experience preferred.
Previous healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
Ability to manage large, complex, simultaneous assignments with potentially conflicting priorities and deadlines.
Ability to lead/provoke the thinking of senior level administrators and medical leadership.
Strong leadership/mentoring skills applicable to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, and staff across the System.
Strong, growing base of analytical/technical, facilitative, and process improvement knowledge.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Sound decision-making skills.
Proven project management skills.
Strong diplomacy and collaboration skills.
Lean, Six Sigma, and Supply Chain Management or equivalent industry training and experience preferred.
