General Ledger/Accountant/Analyst - Hastings, MI
BROAD FUNCTIONS:
The fundamental role of this position is to assume responsibility for the accuracy of the Flexfab North America general ledger activity and perform financial analysis of manufacturing and SG&A costs. Primary focus of this role includes, but is not limited to:
KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Analyzes and accurately maintains detailed data for general ledger and other ancillary financial systems – primarily related to inventory, fixed assets and other accrual related accounts.
- Reconciles general ledger account balances and activity and coordinates/facilitates resolution of any discrepancies.
- Participates in various period-end close activities.
- Generate reports, perform analysis and distributes defined deliverables to various internal constituents each period, or as otherwise needed.
- Continuously strives to identify opportunities for improving process efficiency within accounting and reporting processes.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for preparation of period-end journal entries and period end financial reports/schedules as determined and assigned by the Controller.
- Responsible for investigation of inventory purchase price variances and providing findings/recommendations to Controller.
- Develop and prepare period end reporting & analysis of manufacturing costs/performance versus standard to be used by constituents within the operations, engineering & finance teams, and by senior management.
- Analyze and update manufacturing cost allocations as needed and ensure factors used for allocating are based on the most appropriate cost drivers.
- Reviews individual inventory items for slow moving and obsolete items and coordinates cross-functional review of obsolete item disposition. i.e. items disposal, alternate usage, etc.
- Maintains property tax records and prepares personal property tax returns.
- Is responsible for fiscal year-end analysis and work paper preparation for inventory, capital assets, material cost, property taxes, etc. to support year-end financial audits.
- Support the planning and execution of the year-end physical inventory.
- Provide insights and observations regarding operating costs that can help drive improvement in the company’s financial performance.
- Actively seek relevant educational and training opportunities both internally and externally and apply this knowledge as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
FORMAL EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in relevant roles.
- Experience in inventory valuation, fixed asset accounting and reporting
- Strong interpersonal skills are needed in order to effectively interact and collaborate both within the finance department as well as with others throughout the organization.
- Strong skills/aptitude with Microsoft Excel and experience with both ERP and financial reporting systems. Experience with either Baan LN (ERP) or Oracle EPM Cloud financial reporting system is considered a plus.
- Strong analytical skills and proven ability to collect and analyze data and provide information and insights to the organization.
