Position Summary:
The Exercise Science Division in the School of Health Sciences at Central Michigan University (CMU ) is recruiting for a full-time twelve-month tenure-track position, beginning May or August 2025. The Exercise Science Major is accredited by CoAES. The CMU School of Health Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and is located in The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. Rank and starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Attractive benefits package and research support is available.
Faculty members are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, student advising, university service, and participate in graduate and undergraduate research.
• Teaching: Teach freshman through graduate courses in human anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, exercise testing, and other areas based on expertise.
• Research: Conduct research and scholarly endeavors that lead to securing extramural funding to support an ongoing research agenda; direct undergraduate and graduate research.
• Advising and Service: Involvement in campus and community service; advise undergraduate and graduate students.
Required Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in Anatomy, Physiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field (ABD considered if degree will be completed by the start of appointment).
• Demonstrated successful college teaching of anatomy experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching Human Gross Anatomy and Anatomical Dissection, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related fields.
• Post-doctoral teaching experience.
• Demonstrated research agenda based on published works and/or external funding.
• Experience or demonstrated interest in securing extramural grants and contracts.
• Evidence of involvement with professional associations and organizations.
• Interest in leadership opportunities within unit.
• Proficiency in use of technology in the classroom (e.g., AI).
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Effective oral/written communication skills.

About the Department:
The School of Health Sciences offers programs in exercise and health science, public health, and health care administration. The departmental faculty is dedicated to student-centered teaching, innovative delivery methodology, collaborative work projects, and applied research. The teaching space and labs are state of the art and extensive; research labs are available and include opportunities in biochemistry, metabolism, cell culture, applied sports performance, environmental physiology, body composition (DEXA ), biomechanics, neuroscience, and animal research.
The Herbert H. and Grace A.
