GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Sr. Actuarial Analyst supports and can lead the development of actuarial studies and analyses, making appropriate recommendations to actuarial management. Gives direction to less experienced staff and works to develop efficient processes and applies actuarial techniques and statistical analysis to several functions, including insurance premium and pricing development, claim trend analysis, experience studies, medical economics, profitability analysis, wellness studies, predictive modeling, or claim reserving.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads modeling development of revenue and claim estimates including but not limited to risk scores & adjustments, trend, claim reserves, premium deficiency reserves, drug rebates and reinsurance recoveries and reserves.
Utilizes actuarial tools to create benchmark analytics and modeling. Monitors actual results in order to recommend enhancements to existing tools and processes.
Implement analytic techniques and predictive models to support medical cost reduction and health cost initiatives.
Strong analytical and effective communication and presentation skills.
Review of model and process enhancements as appropriately delegated by the model owners.
Ability to draw conclusions and identify trends from data in a logical, systematic way.
Collaborates with department leadership to outline data requirements for a study or analysis. Analyzes and reviews appropriateness of results considering experience and industry knowledge under the guidance of actuarial leadership.
Supports actuarial leadership in the development of studies, analyses, and presentation materials needed to appropriately inform decision makers. Makes appropriate recommendations to actuarial management and assists in presenting recommendations to management across teams.
Ability to direct the work of others and assist in their education and development.
Participation in project planning and creation of project objectives.
Interest and ability to think beyond the task at hand and understand how one's work fits into the broader landscape.
Effectively works as part of the Actuarial Team and collaborates with departments outside the Actuarial Department.
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize, multitask, and work in fast paced environment.
Manage own time and resources across many projects, focusing on quality, time, scope, usefulness, and appropriateness of work. Carry out recurring projects with minimal assistance and oversight. Keep manager informed.
Ability to respond to all communications effectively and in a timely manner.
Continued professional growth in Actuarial field as evidenced by participation in the Actuarial Study Program.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or closely related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an Actuarial Role.
Advanced proficiency in Excel, especially in model development.
Experience with data visualization preferred.
Advanced proficiency using database tools to build queries, analyze, and use reporting tools on large sets of data.
Strong knowledge of programming, preferably experience with writing macros in Visual Basic or developing code for modeling insurance products within actuarial modeling software.
Possesses and applies knowledge of actuarial principles, concepts, practices and processes within multiple fields or disciplines.
Ability to complete complex assignments and ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Successful completion of at least six (6) Actuarial Exam Components.
