Position Summary:
This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening. Experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP) only. NCC certification and NRP provider status are required.
NNP will provide specialized health care and health services to inpatient neonates at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital (HFJH) from admission to discharge. The NNP will coordinate care of this patient population in collaboration with the Pediatric Hospitalist and all members of the health care team. This position will be 100% inpatient.
Ideal candidate will be comfortable seeing patients, age-based, neonatal (birth - 28 days).
Independently evaluates and treats patients in the hospital
Delivery room attendance, resuscitation, and stabilization
Admission of sick babies to Special Care Nursery (SCN) and well newborns to mother baby (MB)
Stabilization and transfer of infants to Level III NICU in need of higher level of care or subspecialty services
Discharge of SCN patients and of normal newborns on MB
Ordering/interpreting testing and lab results, modifying plan of care to address results
Provide clinical expertise and direction to support patient medication management
Maintain accurate documentation in EPIC regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments to physicians, streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including communicating specific patient needs to internal and external team members and other clinical providers
Perform other related duties as required to assure patient safety and satisfaction
Participate in the development and presentation of educational experiences for patients, families, and health care professionals
Call requirement- occasional
OR Time- delivery room attendance at c-sections, routine and emergent.
Duties & Responsibilities:
In collaboration with Pediatric Hospitalist(s), NNP will provide independent acute and/or routine medical care to patients in neonatal medicine.
Writes appropriate orders, if/when applicable
Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods
Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic
Writes progress notes on patients' charts indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed
Provides health education to patients, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshop
May perform clinical research related to specific operations
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures
Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
Ability to perform medical examinations using standard medical procedures
Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures
Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners and/or the general public
Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment
Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques issues, and approaches in area of expertise
Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions
Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records
Knowledge of primary care principles and practices

Working Conditions:
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment
Work is normally performed in a typical inpatient hospital setting
Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training
Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care with the supervision but not necessarily the presence of a qualified physician member of the medical staff. Takes patient history, performs physical examination, orders and interprets tests, makes diagnoses and institutes appropriate treatment programs. Performs nursing functions independently. Works in collaboration with staff physicians, house officers, nurses and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved in a safe and efficient manner. Specific procedures are individually credentialed as indicated by training and experience. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires Master's Degree in Nursing; licensure as a Certified Nurse Practitioner; licensure as a Registered Nurse; BCLS certification; and certification in one of the following: ANA certification exam in a nursing specialty field, National Certification Corporation (NCC), National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Associates, and/or Certification from Michigan State Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner (NP).
