Position Summary:
The primary function of this position is to maintain and manage equipment (such as 3D Printers, scanners, apparel & interior design studio equipment, textile testing equipment) & specialized spaces housed in the Fashion, Interior Design, & Merchandising (FIDM ) department. This position is also responsible for providing technical assistance and training for faculty & students using spaces.
Required Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree.
One year of experience in a technical area using laboratory techniques and equipment.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to quickly learn emerging technology.
Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete tasks independently and coordinate multiple projects.
Ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions and fluctuating workload.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assists students, faculty, and staff with the operation of equipment.
Assists in the supervision, training, and mentorship of student employees.
Provides printing services (i.e. 3D Printer, Large-scale plotter) for students and faculty.
Responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of labs, studios, specialized spaces, and equipment in support of courses and programs.
Collaborates with faculty and coordinates with building managers in the maintenance of department spaces.
Coordinates lab schedules with faculty, student workers, and students.
Sets up, operates, and maintains all emerging technology related software and hardware (i.e. 3D printers, scanners, plotters, virtual reality equipment).
Performs periodic inventory and maintains accurate inventory for equipment, studio, and specialized spaces, materials, and supplies.
Troubleshoots minor equipment repairs; may coordinate major repairs with vendors or Facilities Management.
Troubleshoots minor hardware/software issues.
Liaisons with the Office of Information Technology to resolve technology issues and update hardware, software, and licenses.
Oversees the development, implementation, and oversight of training programs for use of equipment and emerging technologies.
Assists with and helps facilitate events and outreach activities as needed.
Tracks industry developments and recommends the purchase of new and/or updated technologies.
Develops and maintains current user instructions for departmental equipment & technology.
Performs other duties as assigned.
