Position Summary:
The Department of Teacher and Special Education at Central Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Special Education. The primary professional responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting and supervising research, seeking external funding, providing department, college, university and professional service, and academic advising. We seek applicants who embrace inclusive and accessible philosophies and practices, and who are committed to creating an environment that acknowledges, encourages, respects, and celebrates all learners. Applicants from historically marginalized and underrepresented populations are especially encouraged to apply. This position is effective August 18, 2025. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in special education; ABD will be considered if it is clear the terminal degree will be conferred prior to the date of hire.
• Minimum of three academic years of PK-12 U.S. experience teaching students with disabilities.
• Demonstrated, or the potential to demonstrate, a record of high-quality teaching, research, and service commensurate with rank.
• Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and accessible practices.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Evidence of postsecondary teaching effectiveness.
• Experience with online instruction and other modalities.
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas: (a) serving PK-12 students with high-incidence disabilities, (b) serving PK-12 students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, and © Council for Exceptional Children’s initial preparation standards and high-leverage practices.
