Position Summary
Versiti Blood Center of Michigan (Versiti MI) is searching for a full-time Associate Medical Director/Medical Director with experience in transfusion medicine and an understanding of laboratory medicine to join our team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Experience in cellular therapy collections and processing is preferred. The successful candidate will collaborate with our growing team of Transfusion Medicine physicians who oversee all aspects of blood banking/transfusion service operations, cellular therapy collection and processing, cord blood banking, and apheresis coverage at our partner hospitals.
Responsibilities
The Associate Medical Director/Medical Director helps oversee all clinical aspects of an AABB-accredited Blood Center operation, which may include CLIA and FACT Medical Direction of the Cell Therapy Collections and Processing Laboratory and assisting in oversight of the Cord Blood Bank. The Associate Medical Director/Medical Director will also assist in providing medical oversight of an active therapeutic apheresis and cellular therapy program, helping to lead a team of physicians and nurses providing 24/7 service to several hospitals. The apheresis program performs plasma exchanges, red cell exchanges, photopheresis, and autologous and allogeneic cellular collections for transplantation and CAR-T therapies. The successful applicant should have a track record of effective management of all blood center activities and will actively participate in the development and execution of strategies for focused cell therapy program growth. The Associate Medical Director/Medical Director joins a team of clinical pathologists and hematologists in the Medical Sciences Institute (MSI) working in blood center and hospital settings across a 5-state area.
Qualifications
Required Experience:
M.D. or D.O. Degree
Board certified in clinical pathology, internal medicine, or pediatrics
Board certified or eligible for certification in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine
Experience in blood center/transfusion medicine practice preferred, cellular therapy collections and processing desired
Licensed or eligible for a Michigan medical license
