Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Facilities Director, performs a variety of preventive maintenance task on hospital facilities and equipment. Make repairs to electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, performs carpentry tasks, and maintains and repairs various equipment. Assist with major repairs and construction projects. Repair and maintain machinery and patient equipment in all hospital facilities.

Maintain clean and attractive facilities (picks up trash, reports problems, etc.).
Invoke 'Service Recovery' when warranted.
Comply with all regulatory, federal, state, and local laws, and the organization's compliance plan and code of ethics.
Comply with organizational policies and procedures, including fire, safety and infection control.
Work toward and contributes to a culture of continuous performance improvement, risk management and patient safety.
Test electrical circuits to locate problems. Replace outlets, ballasts and light switches. Assist with major electrical repairs.
Perform minor plumbing repairs such as repairing leaks, unplugging drains, and replacing valves. Install new plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, drinking fountains, and assist with major plumbing projects.
Perform a variety of carpentry tasks such as framing and finishing drywall, installing door frames and hanging doors, building walls and partitions, and constructing storage and shelving units. Assist with major construction projects. Install modular work stations.
Inspect and monitor the operation of heating and air conditioning units, checking filters, trouble shooting problems, cleaning evaporators and condenser cells, changing belts and motors, lubricating bearings and monitoring the operation of air handler units. Monitor and adjust computerized heating and air conditioning system.
Perform masonry work such as repairing sidewalks and steps, and patches holes in asphalt.
Perform roof repairs such as patching, replacing flashing, and related repairs.
Repair carpet, tiles and other floor coverings. Grouts and seals tiles and installs floor molding.
Perform interior and exterior painting, includes repairing and preparing walls for painting and applying various types of paint. May require use of ladders and scaffolding.
Perform repairs on stretchers and beds.
Perform snow removal duties when needed to promote a safe environment for visitors, patients, and staff.
Respond to emergencies, fire, Dr. Strong, Mr. Ready disaster calls, etc., when needed.
Operate tractors with mowers, riding mowers and power mowers to cut grass on the hospital property. Trims grass, trees, shrubs, and hedges with power and hand equipment. Operate power edger for sidewalks. Operates tractors with snow attachments and snow blowers to remove snow from pedestrian and traffic areas and performs other grounds task when needed.
Perform related duties when assigned.
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- Drivers License credentialed from the Michigan Department of Transportation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Work Experience:
- Training in electrical, plumbing and other building trade areas preferred.
