Job Title: Before & After School Program Staff
Reports to: Assistant Director of School Age Programs & Youth & Family Director
Compensation: $11.85 per hour & FREE Household YMCA Membership
Work Schedule: Shifts Available: Before School Monday-Friday (7am-8am) and/or After School Monday-Friday (2:30pm-6:00PM)
Status: Part-Time (up to 25 hours per week)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Before & After School Program Staff support the work of the Y in strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position provides supervision and guidance for children in the YMCA healthy out of school time/after school program in order to provide a safe environment for the children to play, learn, grow and interact positively.
JOB DETAILS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitate an environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children
- Ensure children are signed in upon arrival and signed out by parents each day at pick up
- Set up program supplies upon arrival and clean up room before departure
- Plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
- Provide assistance with homework and encourage academic progress
- Build/maintain positive relationships with children and families served, staff, volunteers, and partner organizations in the community
- Familiarize parents and students with After School Program policies and procedures
- Discipline children by using appropriate methods as defined by YMCA policies and procedures. If inappropriate behavior persists, inform the Assistant Director of Youth Programs or Childcare Director
- Use common sense and good judgement in all situations to keep children safe
- Respond to, document and report any accidents or incidents to the Assistant Director of Youth programs or the Childcare Director immediately
- Attend and participate in meetings and trainings with other staff and administration
- Ensure the engagement of children in assigned group
- Provide careful, attentive supervision, and remain alert at all times
- Serve as a positive role model and demonstrate professional behavior
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Ability and desire to work with school age children
- Previous experience working with youth and planning activities required
- Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Experience in creating interactive and educational activities, youth development, academic enrichment and arts
- Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults
- Must be capable of implementing the daily administrative, program related, and supervisory responsibilities of an after-school site
- Flexibility, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances
- Be familiar with procedures for recognizing and reporting suspected child abuse
- Ability to foresee problems and redirect children before an incident occurs
- CPR certified and have basic first aid knowledge
- Previous experience with diverse populations and ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
- Excellent organizational and communication skills and basic computer skills
- Completion of Background check, Fingerprinting and TB Test required
