GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Road Superintendent or Construction Foreman, the Heavy Truck Operator (HTO) performs a wide variety of duties related to the maintenance and construction of county local and primary roads within Oscoda County. The HTO may be trained to operate any piece of equipment used in a typical maintenance garage.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The HTO will be able to perform summer and winter maintenance duties located within the road right-of-way including all types of road surfaces, shoulders, bridges, and ditches as assigned by the immediate supervisor. The following examples are not a complete list but listed here to give you an idea on what can be expected of the HTO. They are: patching and blading gravel roads, shoulders maintenance repair, patching and crack sealing of hard top roads, sealcoating, mowing right-of-way, litter pickup, guardrail installation and repair, bridge maintenance, sign maintenance, fence repair, culvert cleaning and repair, tree trimming/removal , snow removal, sanding and salting for ice control.
Operating various power equipment such as chainsaws, brush chippers, crack sealer machines, dura-patching machines, vibratory compactors and rollers, air compressors and air tools, pumps, generators and electric hand tools of all types will be expected of the HTO.
Performing highway maintenance work using various non-power hand tools such as but not limited to: wrenches, sockets, shovels, rakes, post hole diggers, sledge hammers will be expected of the HTO.
The HTO must be able to perform miscellaneous labor tasks such as but not limited to: changing grader underbody blades, lifting heavy objects, unloading materials from truck beds, carrying and setting up barricades and signs for full road and lane closures, clear roads of dead animals.
MUST ALWAYS HAVE A VALID MICHIGAN CDL DRIVERS LICENSE AND CURRENT MEDICAL CARD
EVERY WORK DAY – Accurately record on daily work sheet a written report of various job activities you have done along with where the maintenance activity took place within the county.
Perform daily vehicle inspection and document findings on the daily vehicle log report.
Lubricate, change oil and perform light repair maintenance on equipment daily or as needed or as instructed. Clean equipment or building facilities as needed or as instructed.

*Physical Mobility – Ability to walk extended distances and climb ramps/steps/ladders to access Commission and other work related locations and facilities.
*Vision and Sight – Ability to read instructions, directions, maps, and similar written information in letters, memoranda, forms and other documents.
*Hearing/Speaking - Ability to converse orally using a telephone or radio and to receive and or transmit information to employees, employer, and to the public.
*Agility/Movement - Ability to lift, push pull, and manipulate tools, equipment, supplies and other objects often weighing upwards 100 pounds or more unassisted.

DESRIABLE QUALIFICATIONS
High school education and two years of experience operating such equipment as is utilized in road construction and maintenance. Experience in road construction inspection. Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively. Ability to work extended hours.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE (CDL) with License Type A and with an N endorsement along with an up-to-date current DOT Medical Examiner Certificate (DOT - 49 CFR Part 391.41)
MUST BE ABLE TO PASS PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG & ALCOHOL SCREENING TEST
