Travel required to Henry Ford Dialysis Units within Metro Detroit Area
Henry Ford Health is committed to providing comprehensive care for patients with kidney disease. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Financial Navigator to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in helping patients overcome financial barriers to accessing essential dialysis treatment.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Financial Navigator will provide expert guidance and support to dialysis patients in navigating the complex landscape of healthcare financing. This role requires a strong understanding of insurance, government programs, and financial assistance resources.
Screens patient for third party insurance using various computer programs and payer websites. Identifies hospital, public, and/or private financial assistance
programs for patients unable to meet their financial obligations.
Performs financial clearance functions including, but not limited to, informing patients/guarantors of their financial obligation; coordinating and collecting point of service payments (i.e. co-pays and deductibles prior balances); managing estimated out of pocket co-insurance liability; and collecting deposits.
Arranging payment plans as appropriate in an effort to resolve prior balances via letter, phone calls, and/or patient visits while in-house.
Obtains clinical information when preparing estimated cost-of-services for self-pay patients.
Works with current payer source to ensure care is delivered in an accurate setting -- to ensure that patient is seen at the correct health care center assignment, with appropriate referrals/authorizations per insurance requirements.
Works with the Department of Health and Human Services, clinical staff, and/or outsourcing company to assist patients/guarantors in completing assistance program applications and determining eligibility and coverage.
Communicates financing/payment issues to the appropriate representative in the financial clearance area for non-urgent or elective services to determine deferment or rescheduling. Advises Leadership of possible deferment or rescheduling of elective and non-urgent care.
Works with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure follow-up referral to appropriate primary care medical home utilizing our community partners and other area healthcare services.
Understands goals and performance targets and is accountable for delivering them.
Demonstrates ability to interact professionally in a variety of patient situations and adjust accordingly depending on the situation presented at time of service.
Documents all activities with patients, families, insurers, and providers regarding financial counseling in the appropriate computer system.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required
Associate degree with coursework in mathematics, accounting, or computer science preferred
Two years of experience related to patient admitting, registration, and/or insurance eligibility and verification in a hospital or medical office setting required
Must have Customer Service Experience.
