Education and Training Connection, located in Midland County, has an immediate opening for a Payroll/Accounting Specialist. Primary responsibilities include computing, classifying, recording, and verifying numerical data for use in maintaining payroll and accounting records by performing various duties.
Summary: Computes, classifies, records, and verifies numerical data for use in maintaining payroll and accounting records by performing the following duties.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.50 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
Payroll:
- Creates, maintains and distributes employee master time-sheets.
- Compiles payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance, loans, garnishments and union dues to be withheld.
- Enters data into computer files and posts to payroll records.
- Reviews wages computed and corrects errors to ensure accuracy to payroll.
- Records data concerning transfer of employees between departments.
- Re-classes expenses to be debited or credited to each department for cost accounting records.
- Processes year end W-2’s.
- Distributes paychecks.
- Processes direct deposits.
- Processes garnishments, child support checks and EFTPS.
- Does journal entries for payroll.
- Prepares 401K distribution report.
- Records employees’ paid-time-off (PTO), and other absences.
- Submits new hires on MI New Hire website.
- Updates Master Employee List.
- Updates and reconciles specific tracking logs such as Payroll Summary, and assists Benefits Manager with benefit reconciliations.
- Assists CEO, auditors, and other accounting department staff as needed.
- Monitors loans and accounts payable to ensure payments are up to date.
- Assists employees by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services.
- Assists Human Resources Department with reviewing, monitoring, and tracking of benefit invoices.
Adult Education Budget Management:
- Assists in developing Adult Education grant budgets for Section 107 and Federal Grants.
- Develops wage/benefit budget guided by Director’s information
- Combines Salary budgets with Operational Budgets
- Works in conjunction with ETC Business Manager on all budget management throughout the year
- Monitors grants to ensure correct spending
- Keeps Admin informed of grant process
- Monitors the Adult Education budget/assists with preparing documentation for audits
- Assists in development of calendars/schedules

Education and/or Experience:
Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Business but will consider Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with 5 years’ experience; or a minimum of one year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer experience with State and Federal funding activities.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Human Resource systems; Internet software; Inventory software; Order processing systems; Payroll systems – preferably Great Plains- Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
