JOB SUMMARY:
This is an amazing opportunity for an engineering leader to mentor, develop and efficiently lead a Robot Engineering department at a strong company. We provide a high tech environment where every project is custom. The Robot Engineering Lead will supervise the team through all phases of complete robot setup, programming (offline and online) and communications of the custom manufactured automated machinery. This includes, but is not limited to, design and troubleshooting. They ensure the robot is functional and suits the purpose for which the machine was sold. They will plan for short term progress as well as long term goals.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review awarded jobs with sales department.
- Report application, scheduling and cost concerns to Director.
- Schedule internal and external resources to achieve scheduled time frame.
- Negotiate terms and quality with external sources.
- Daily review progress of internal and external resources.
- Review, resolve and investigate opportunities that arise pertaining to active jobs.
- Pursue new or revised software and technology that would result in cost savings to the company.
- Supervise Robot Engineers that program and download to robots using offline simulation software.
- Supervise the Robot programming, system debug, installation and customer support when required.
- Ensures smooth Robot commissioning and communications set up.
- Ensures engineers validate robot safety.
- Ensures engineers can configure peripheral equipment and verify the robot hardware installation.
- Conduct robotic design releases with manufacturing. Relay the design intent for machine construction.
- Resolve engineering problems encountered by manufacturing.
- Participate in and/or lead activities that promote continuous improvement and a safe working environment.
- Justify new positions required within the department.
- Interview, hire and train personnel.
- Conduct department personnel job performance reviews.
- Resolve personnel problems including discipline, motivation and termination.
- Responsible for department operating budgets.
- Management of network file structure and data storage practices for all department files.
- Understand and enforce company procedural manual, employee manual and standards.
- Develop company standards, policies and procedures.
- Responsible for reporting departmental KPI’s.
- Responsible for detail prints and bills of material.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering-related field (with Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering preferred)
- Experience in leadership and supervision: 5 years minimum
- Minimum 5 years of experience in robotics.
- Strong technical robotic skills including programming, operations and maintenance.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Must be able to understand PLCs and controls schematics
- Must have knowledge of machine control practices and machine building practices (wiring, plumbing, etc.).
- Ability to read electrical machine prints and PLC/robot interfaces.
- Experience with Fanuc, ABB and Motoman.
- Knowledge of industry products and local distributors of products.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, NEMA, NEC and pertinent industry standards and codes.
- Willing and able to travel as needed with possible international travel (25% highly preferred).
