GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Director of Lab Operations is responsible for the management and leadership of all Eyeglass Manufacturing labs, including surfacing and finishing, across Henry Ford OptimEyes. The position reports to the Vice President, Henry Ford OptimEyes.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the supervision, development and training of all Lab Supervisors, Lab Team Leaders, and lab team members to maintain measurable lab expectations, quality work and best practices
Develop, test, and implement new procedures and process improvements for all HFO labs to achieve standard operating metrics
Develop RFP's to work with vendors to ensure cost of goods is in line with all budget targets
Research Private Label lens products for cost efficiency
Develop and recommend lens product retail lineup and pricing to OptimEyes operational and financial Directors.
Ensure all existing and new team members are kept up to date on new skills required to produce state of the art lenses
Support new and existing OptimEyes team members with Basic Optics training
Establish regular cadence of meetings and huddles with lab teams to observe quality, practices, productivity, and efficiency
Responsible for Lab Management System (LMS) as well as coordinating and implementing enhancements and upgrades with the labs, Distribution Center, Accounting, Purchasing, and Finance, and coordinating any changes with linked Point of Sale software.
Manage the supervision and workload of Lab Equipment Maintenance team including maintaining asset inventories and asset retirement as needed.
Assist in creating the lab budget and responsible for lab performance metrics to budget
Responsible to maintain correct and appropriate lab lens and maintenance product inventory levels based on product mix
Responsible for creating and maintaining all reporting required by lens and manufacturing vendors
Flexible hours required to include possible evenings and weekends
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Requires High School Diploma or GED
Requires a minimum of 15 years optical lab experience, both operationally and managerial.
Requires knowledge of Lab OSHA standards of safety
Optical LMS (Lab Management Software) experience required
Requires knowledge of various surfacing and edging equipment and software
Requires advanced computer skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
ABO Certification required
Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the HFHS' Customer Service Policy
Must practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in Optical Manufacturing Labs across Henry Ford OptimEyes. Requires flexibility in schedule to include evening and weekend hours
May require light lifting or bending to examine equipment or to review quality.
