JOB SUMMARY: Serve as Access and Accommodations Generalist to support the mission of Accessibility Resources and Accommodations through four key areas: Intake, compliance, case management, and provide support for students in need of assistance. This position also assists with the day-to-day operations of the ARA office. Support and ensure appropriate application of and compliance with requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other laws and professional standards related to services for students with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and evaluate documentation submitted by students to determine eligibility for accommodations.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized accommodation plans in collaboration with students, faculty and other offices on campus.
- Assist with the daily operations of the Office of Accessibility Resources & Accommodations, including scheduling appointments, managing correspondence, etc.
- Maintain a caseload of students registered with the Office of Accessibility Resources & Accommodations and provide case management, including, but not limited to, scheduled check-ins for accommodations management, resource referral, student outreach, and advisement on university policies and procedures.
- Maintain a confidential database and files of students with disabilities on campus.
- Utilize data to improve the quality and delivery of programs/services and track student interactions.
- Plans and coordinates communications for student support initiatives to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement.
- Serve as office assistive technology specialist as a part of the accommodation process.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices, legal mandates and ongoing research and developments in the area of disability access and inclusion in higher education.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General supervision is received from the Director of Accessibility Resources and Accommodations
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Limited supervision of student employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, or related discipline.
- 3 - 5 years of experience in education, social work, or disability service related field.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with assistive technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups, individuals, and cultures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), Outlook, and ability to learn specialized software quickly.
- Knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Ability to perform the position's essential duties with or without accommodation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in social work, Education, or the equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).
- Experience interpreting 504 plans, IEP’s, IDEA’s, and medical documentation.
- Experience with accessibility management software.
- Working knowledge of ADA and section 504 in educational settings.
