INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADVISOR

Position Summary:
The International Student Advisor position manages a case load of international student immigration requests and benefits using knowledge ofrelated Department of Homeland Security (DHS ) regulations and independent judgement of their applicability; answers international student
questions related to immigration, cultural adjustment, health insurance, finances and other relevant issues; contributes to planning anddelivery of International Student Orientation and other international student programs on and off campus.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree.
Experience working with international student populations in a higher educational environment; or previous experience living, working or studying abroad.
US citizenship or Permanent Residency is required per Department of Homeland Security regulations.
Ability to learn F-1 regulations and serve as a Designated School Official.
An understanding of the needs and concerns of international students and scholars.
Strong intercultural communication skills.
Ability to prioritize workload.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with event planning and/or student programming in a higher educational environment.
Ability to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, International Education or related field.
One year of experience as an international student advisor and serving as a Designated School Official.
Competency in a foreign language.
Demonstrated ability to work with international student populations in a higher educational environment.
Experience creating programs and events to serve the needs of an international student community on campus.
Experience with social media and website maintenance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Advises students and scholars on maintaining their immigration status, cultural adjustment, personal issues, health insurance, and academic success.
Manages caseload of international student immigration requests and benefits.
Maintains accurate student and institutional records as per SEVIS requirements.
Contributes to planning International Student Orientation and other international student events and programs.
Advocates for international students on campus and throughout the community.
Stays up-to-date on federal regulations related to international students and scholars.
Performs other duties as assigned.
