Innovative Design and Development: Establish design criteria and create horizontal and vertical alignments. Perform superelevation design, and prepare comprehensive design calculations for various roadway-related tasks.
Expert Plan Preparation: Utilize your production-level proficiency with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Plan Development Guide and Design Wiki to prepare detailed contract documents, including construction plans and proposal packages.
Advanced 3D Modeling: Leverage your production-level experience in 3D modeling and plan development to bring projects to life with precision and accuracy.
Traffic Control Plans: Develop effective traffic control plans to ensure the safety and efficiency of our transportation projects.
Comprehensive Documentation: Prepare contract special provisions, cost estimates, and conduct field work to document condition assessments and existing conditions.
Quality Assurance: Implement our corporate Quality Assurance Plan to maintain the highest standards of excellence in all our projects.
Collaborative Proposal Development: Work closely with our sales staff to create compelling proposals in response to client requests for proposals (RFPs).
Industry Engagement: Enhance the visibility of CDM Smith's products and services by attending conferences, symposia, and other industry events in collaboration with our sales team.
Mentorship and Leadership: Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior staff, fostering their growth and development within the discipline and the firm. Supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 7 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Production level proficiency with Bentley MicroStation and MDOT OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Connect Edition.
Experienced or good understanding of the Transportation Management Plan (TMP) based on the MDOT Workzone Safety and Mobility Manual.
Experience in Hydraulic Analysis and modeling for Bridges and Culverts, and Scour Analysis.
Experience in Drainage Study, Storm Sewer Design and Stormwater, and Best Management Practices (BMP's).

Skills and Abilities:
Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations. Basic knowledge of design standards (AASHTO, NACTO, etc.).
Background Check and Drug Testing Information:
CDM Smith Inc. and its divisions and subsidiaries (hereafter collectively referred to as "CDM Smith") reserves the right to require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc. as well as credit and motor vehicle when applicable for certain positions. In addition, CDM Smith may conduct drug testing for designated positions. Background checks are conducted after an offer of employment has been made in the United States. Additional Compensation:
All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
