GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides direct clinical services to patients, families, and significant others within the Emergency Department and Psychiatric Central Screening. Based upon clinical assessments and considering age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs, makes recommendations to physicians regarding appropriate services and work collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, other SMMH staff, and community providers to facilitate the initiation of appropriate services. May also provide crisis intervention or short-term, focused clinical treatment services.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Requires Masters Degree in Social Work or Psychology
Licensure
ØCurrent Michigan CSW or LLP Licensure
Training and Experience
- One to two years progressively more independent work experience in a psychiatric or related setting.
Job Knowledge
Clinical and analytical skills necessary to assess patient psychiatric needs, including evaluation of the degree of patient risk for dangerousness. Skills that are required to make advanced clinical decisions with limited information in a short period of time.
Knowledge of psychiatric diagnostic nosology and criteria.
Verbal and written communication skills of high quality required for efficient and comprehensive clinical documentation for patient records.
Basic familiarity with microcomputers.
Able to function independently and exercise appropriate judgment in formulating dispositional plans for patients, without direct input from supervisor.
Able to interact effectively with a wide variety of SMMH staff, patients, and community providers.
