Title: Project Coordinator - RED Unit

Purpose: This position serves as a recognized resource and will coordinate response activities within the Rapid Epidemiology Deployment (RED) unit and when needed, support research and surveillance biomonitoring projects within the Biomonitoring, Epidemiology and Response Section (BEaRS). This individual will help the RED Unit prepare for and respond to environmental disasters, harms, or relevant concerns related to the health and safety of Michigan residents. The person in this role will work within the Unit and Section to coordinate and manage assigned projects. This position requires an individual who can establish and develop new procedures and protocols for deployment activities as well as more established research projects. This is a highly collaborative position and requires an individual who is detail-oriented, efficient, and works well with local governments and community-based organizations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in on-site work and assist in the coordination of staff and activities while on-site.
Deploy into the community for on-site work and assist with the coordination of staff and activities.
Implement written community work protocols and ensure staff understand assignments.
Complete written reports of work activities.
Collaborate with local governments, stakeholders, community groups, and residents.
Collaborate with and aid other MDHHS units and sections in the community and complete activities as assigned.
Project management of day-to-day activities for assigned surveillance, or research projects.
Plan, prepare and document project meeting agendas, notes, decision points, assignments, and action items.
Track timeline and deliverables, ensure project meets deadlines.
Manage documents, maintain filing system, both electronic and physical as required, store and update documents, research materials, proposals, health education materials and other information as needed.
Meet weekly with project teams to review and manage project timelines, identify resource requirements, address operational barriers, plan for future needs, and assist with project scope management.
Oversee project budgets, working closely with the Financial Services Office to ensure project remains within budget.
Coordinate with Community Engagement teams to initiate contact and meet with public, private, and community-based agencies to facilitate project planning.
Assist in the development of protocols and procedures for on-site teams and related deployment activities. Evaluate programs and make recommendations to increase efficiency and operations.
Assist with the development of protocols for on-site work and other Unit activities.
Develop and recommend alternative and innovative strategies to address and resolve a variety of issues and problems.
Analyze on-going program operations and recommend modifications of procedures and protocols to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness.
Design and conduct surveys or special studies to determine needs and to assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services; consolidates data and prepares reports.
Evaluate organizational and/or operational needs and recommend solutions.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in public health, life sciences, health sciences, or a related field preferred. Master's degree in public health highly preferred.
Alternate Education: Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.
Experience: Three years of professional experience required, including one year of experience leading project teams.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Hybrid home/office environment with occasional travel within the State, including overnights. Less occasionally, travel may be required outside the State. There may be times when work outside of regular hours is necessary for the completion of a project. The employee may need to conduct site visits and attend public events around the state. Work materials and supplies can be bulky and may weigh up to 40lbs. The employee could be exposed to local weather conditions.
