Huntsman is seeking a Development Chemist, Technical Services supporting the Polyurethanes Division located in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This position will report to the Sr Technical Service NAFTA Manager.
As the Development Chemist, Technical Services you will:
Initiate new projects by identifying project objectives, preparing project plans, and performing experiments, laboratory work, and literature reviews as necessary to support project milestones.
Work independently, collaborating with supervisors in the conceptual development of more complex projects, ensuring all work is logically prioritized and coordinated with other ongoing projects in an efficient manner.
Communicate to stakeholders a project's status on an on-going basis by using written and oral communication including technical memos, project plans and timelines, and presentations.
Evaluate, adapt, and modify standard techniques, formulas, and procedures to ensure innovative solutions as necessary.
Examine and interpret experimental data, draws valid conclusions, and makes recommendations based on findings; insures all information captured is documented and made available for internal use and Intellectual Property purposes.
Coordinate with internal and external customers to provide timely responses to technical service requests. Assistance provided may include (but is not limited to) satisfying information and product sample requests, participating in field trials, and capturing the outcomes of field trials with a follow-up action plan and/or technical report.
Request input and feedback from supervisors and fellow associates when technical problems occur, or project timelines are threatened; ensure all project objectives are thoroughly understood.
Maintain equipment in working order and the laboratory stocked with standard supplies and raw materials to prevent unnecessary down time due to out-of-service instruments or out-of-stock materials.
Required Qualifications:
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.
MS in scientific discipline from accredited university with 7+ years' experience.
BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences or related scientific discipline from accredited university with 10+ years' experience.
A high concern for safe working practices and product stewardship practices.
Demonstrated aptitude in mathematics (algebra level)
Mechanical skills and aptitude.
Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, graphics software)
Adequate verbal and written communication skills
The ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment (professionally giving and receiving feedback on performance)
Forklift license is a plus.
The incumbent must be willing to work overtime upon request.
Understands the importance of and follows all EHS and Safety guidelines.
Travel and physical requirements:
Travel: less than 25% with some international travel possible.
Must be capable of lifting and carrying 50 pounds over a short distance.
