Safety Critical Software Engineer
Key Role:
Serve as a safety-critical software engineer responsible for providing safety-critical software solutions and engineering services in support of embedded software products for military applications. Conduct, monitor, direct, and perform software engineering activities and conduct or coordinate research, software design, write code and development, implementation, diagnose and fixing bugs, and test and integration in support of assigned technology or mission areas which are applied across vehicle system lines or on emerging or fielded components, subsystems, and total systems. Conduct specific research and trade-off solution analysis, systems or software architecture development, coding, programming, or integrating software applications for embedded control systems, software transition, and product maintenance. Support executing market surveys, investigating technology transfer or insertion opportunities, requirements and specification development, contractor monitoring, failure analysis, configuration management, software quality assurance, writing documentation, communicating progress with management, peers, and customers, and collaborating with peers and partners, and technical support. Provide support in the preparation of program or project plans, documentation, engineering data and models, project schedules, budgets, and milestones necessary for the overall planning and execution of the assigned program. Develop, review, evaluate, and make recommendations concerning acquisition documents, priorities, schedules, cost estimates, milestones, and other program matters bearing on project or program assignments.
Basic Qualifications:
5+ years of experience with embedded software using C and C++
5+ years of experience with safety-critical software development following industry or DoD standards
Experience with leading teams on safety-critical projects
Experience with performing software life cycle activities across multiple projects
Experience with root cause, corrective action, and continuous improvement activities
Knowledge of the full software life cycle and audit activities
Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
Additional Qualifications:
Experience with standards, including MIL-STD-882E or DO-178C
Experience developing safety documentation, including Hazard Tracking System (HTS), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Safety Assessment Report (SAR), or Level of Rigor (LOR) Analysis
Experience with ISO26262
Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems
Experience with Stage of Involvement Audits, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, and Test Readiness Reviews
Experience with configuration management tools, including PTC Windchill and Git
Experience working on a safety-critical project from cradle to grave
Experience with verification analyses required for safety-critical software
Experience working with the DoD
Experience with writing or updating processes, procedures, checklists, and templates

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $67,700.00 to $154,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
