General Summary
The Health Resource Advocate (HRA) will provide front-line support for COVID-19, help school districts identify current and emerging health concerns, and strengthen best health practices by providing consultation, prevention services, and appropriate public health strategies for area school districts. The HRA will help to assess and address the greatest needs in school health.
Essential Functions
- Serves as the public health representative providing guidance and training to schools on disease prevention and reporting.
· Provides consultation, leadership, and professional development opportunities for quality public health services to area school districts.
- Conducts preventive screenings and early identification of health risks related COVID-19 and other public health threats. Makes referrals as necessary.
- Monitors, interprets, synthesizes, and disseminates relevant research findings and other information related to public health and new legislation that impacts school health programs and services.
- Implements policies, standards, and best practices to promote safe, legal, and effective public health prevention strategies.
- Uses critical thinking and professional judgment to effectively carry out the functions of this position.
· Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement and Performance Management activities.
· Maintains client records and privacy per HIPAA/Confidentiality policies.
· Provides vaccination information to parents, school personnel and community members.
· Administers vaccinations per protocol and works with Immunizations Coordinator and Nurse Director on Immunization oversight and site visits.
· Supports multi-sector community needs assessment collaboration to address Social Determinates of Health (SDoH).

Education/Training
- Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan, with a minimum of three (3) years professional experience required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), with strong knowledge of principles and practices relating to disease surveillance and investigation is preferred.
Other Requirements
· Successful completion of BLS certification is a condition of continued employment.
· Valid Michigan driver’s license: or the ability to have personal transportation provided.
· Initial/annual training pertaining to OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogen Standard is a condition of continued employment.
· Ability to effectively communicate or relate with staff and the public in a professional capacity and provide service in a culturally competent manner.
