Eight hour days; 10AM-630PM; rotating Saturday mornings
What You Will Do
Perform techniques related to blood procurement and perform the clerical and receptionist duties related to departmental operations.
Collect blood from patients utilizing approved venipuncture techniques.
Collect blood using micro-techniques when indicated.
Assist other phlebotomist when patient restraint is indicated.
Assist and instructs patients for the collection of urine and feces.
Review the physician order for accuracy and completeness when ordering.
Order tests according to the physician's written order.
Maintain files such as the standing order file according to policy and procedure.
Distribute reports when necessary.
Assist with logging and filing the histology and cytology reports.
Answer the phone in a professional manner, making every effort to answer within three rings and respond and/or direct the call accordingly.
Order and maintain an adequate supply of specimen collection materials and forms related to specimen collection. Including but not limited to; draw trays, phlebotomy room, main lab.
Pick up specimens from Allegan Professional Building according to the daily schedule.
Collect blood from external patients as needed including Extended Care Facility residents and home bound patients.
Provide courier service to physicians and extended care facility when asked.
Assist in specimen processing including spin down and ordering reference testing when needed.
Assist the phlebotomist supervisor, medical technologist and laboratory manager with day to day operations as needed and appropriate.
What You Will Need
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
