Openings in Central and Southwest Michigan
The Refrigeration Mechanic -E, 7-E9 position covers the entry level up to experienced level mechanic responsible for performing a variety of assignments involving the installation, maintaining, and performing of preventive maintenance of heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, pneumatic, humidity, and digital direct control systems at all MSP Facilities.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.
Required Education and Experience
Education
Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience
Refrigeration Mechanic 7 - No specific type of experience required.
Refrigeration Mechanic 8 - Two years of experience assisting skilled trades working in the HVAC trade such as heating and cooling, hydronic heating, refrigeration or mechanical contractor or inspector.
Refrigeration Mechanic E9 - Four years of experience in HVAC or refrigeration mechanic trade, such as heating and cooling, hydronic heating, refrigeration cooling, or mechanical contractor or inspector, including one year equivalent to a Refrigeration Mechanic E9.
Alternate Education and Experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have the aptitude and be willing to learn the theory and principles in relation to the operation of all heating, ventilation and cooling systems, and components that are relevant to this position. Have the ability to communicate both verbal and written and to be able to do basic troubleshooting (block diagram).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Refrigeration Mechanic 7/8 should be able to complete this within 1 year.
Refrigeration Mechanic E9 is required to have this EPA certification in compliance with section 608 of the Clean Air Act of 1990 as amended.

This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.

Vacation and Sick Leave:Eligible full-time employees receive between15 and 35 personal daysand13 sick daysper year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.
Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year's Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
