Special Education Teacher Consultant for the Visually Impaired/Orientation and Mobility Specialist
You will provide professional development, direct & consultative services, evaluations/assessments, implementation strategies & technology support to Special Ed. professionals, students, & families in local school districts of Oakland County. The goal is that students are provided access & services which will increase academic achievement & functional performance skills.
We are seeking to fill a1.0 FTE Teacher Consultant, VI/Orientation & Mobility Specialist position. However, based on candidates’ qualifications, we can split the position into 1 .5 FTE Teacher Consultant, VI position & 1 .5 FTE Orientation & Mobility Specialist position.
MA in Special Ed. &/or MA in Orientation & Mobility. MI Teaching Certification with SK endorsement. If endorsement is not currently held, incumbent would be required to enroll in a program leading up to endorsement within 6 mos. of employment date & provide documented proof of endorsement when completed.
The Michigan Department of Education has partnered with several universities to offer eligible Michigan certified teachers the opportunity to earn a Visual Impairment endorsement, including tuition assistance. 3 years classroom teaching experience, with no less than 2 in Special Education. Orientation & Mobility certification required. Knowledge/ability to consider/recommend appropriate Assistive Technology equipment, onsider appropriate Orientation & Mobility strategies & skills, & provide Low Vision Assessments & Orientation & Mobility Evaluations. Knowledge of Special Ed. process & documentation & general ed. curriculum & accommodations. Ability to provide professional development, consultation, & coaching.
Salary commensurate with experience / Exempt Position / 10-month work year
