PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Reporting to Executive Director, Student Academic Success, the Lead MSW leads the Lenore Croudy Family Life Center (FLC) and seeks to improve student success through providing intentional and functional social support programming while creating a college culture of care. The Lead MSW will create a systematic response to student needs while connecting students with community and college based resources; develop and implement case management and outcomes based processes and procedures; troubleshoot and advocate for student concerns, issues and problems; lead College committees and initiatives that identify gaps, improve college operations, and develops caring employees; keep abreast of new and emerging research that supports student success through social services programming; maintain and award student emergency funding; and supervise social work technicians and undergraduate interns.
The Lead MSW works with the Executive Director, Student Academic Success, to develop, coordinate and sustain on and off campus support systems; provide leadership within the FLC that has a cross divisional approach to providing social support programming and create routine communication strategies that supports high levels of FLC functionality. The Lead MSW will collaborate with MCC staff on programming related to social work and counseling and work with administration to help close the achievement gaps initiatives targeting minority males.
The Lead MSW will implement fair and equitable practices that supports the success of a diverse student population; embraces the Mott Community College mission; follows the basic tenets of the Mott Community College's Foundational Beliefs: Employee Success, Student Success, Civility and Compliance; and provides excellent customer service.
COORDINATION
The Lead MSW coordinates one (1) full-time social worker, (1) part-time social worker, graduate interns, and work study students.
Minimum Requirements
A Master's degree in Social Work or related field is required; Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Michigan, or fully licensed in another state and eligible for licensure in Michigan is required.
At least two years of successful experience in providing social work services, including but not limited to casework, case management, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention; successful experience delivering human services as a member of a team; demonstrated commitment to the success of economically disadvantaged and/or marginalized people.
At least two years of successful leadership/management experience, can be concurrent with #2.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required. Must have good presentation skills. Conduct themselves professionally.
Ability to work with the public and other employees in a professional manner.
Experience working with the standard office productivity software and electronic communication tools, including Microsoft Office, Google Suites, Email and Zoom.
Must function in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers. Must be able to assure confidentiality, secure documents and sensitive records.
Some evening and weekend work may be required. Travel may be required.
Must have a valid Michigan driver's license with a three-year safe driving record. Must provide their own transportation.
Ability to move materials weighing up to 10 lbs
Work independently and as a team member.
Be able to multi-task and prioritize duties as they arise.
At times, work under stress and/or meet rigorous deadlines.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Experience in a management or leadership capacity in a human services agency.
Experience teaching and/or providing social services in a college environment.
Knowledge of local social welfare resources in Genesee, Lapeer, and Shiawassee counties.
Experience working in higher education.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
1. Must be able to lift 5-10 pounds.
2. Must be able to work in an office environment will frequent standing and sitting.
Work Schedule
Full-time position. As a Lead MSW, this employee must work the hours necessary to fulfill the functions and roles of this position. This may require the employee to occasionally perform work during evenings and weekends.
