Job Title:Quality Engineer
Location:Traverse City, MI
Job Summary:
This position will be responsible for quality activities at Traverse City plant and meeting customer requirements, including: developing quality procedures and manufacturing processes for existing and new products, resolving internal and external quality issues with the focus on improving customer satisfaction, providing powder and material expertise for tungsten carbide and ceramics, resolving raw material issues and deciding on powder qualification, driving quality improvements and manufacturing lean projects.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Creating Quality Procedures and Standards/ Instructions for products manufactured at Traverse City
Responding to and resolving issues related to discrepancies of materials and products.
Communicating with internal and external customers on quality issues and performance.
Coordinating QMS functions to assure compliance with the requirements of Kennametal quality management system, including preparing the annual
audit schedule, assuring these audits are conducted, verifying corrective action, and the final closure of these audits.
Reporting performance of the QA function.
Developing programs for inspection equipment and other machinery and/ or processes.
Initiating projects targeting internal and external quality improvements as well as Lean projects to improve manufacturing, productivity and cost.
Providing training and direction to production personnel to resolve quality / in-process inspection problem
Reduce the variability of the process through statistical techniques.
Optimize quality process parameters namely through LEAN initiatives to reduce LEAD TIME and lower costs.
Education, Work Experience, Skills, Certificates
High school, 4 -year secondary degree, Engineering degree preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in quality manufacturing / quality engineering
Must have great problem solving and analytical skills
Must have sound organizational and planning skills
Must be self-directed and solutions-oriented person
Must have project management and matrix management expertise
Must demonstrate effective communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
QA background
Basic programming understanding
LEAN background in VSM and/ or 6 Sigma
Familiarity with ISO and its requirements
Familiarity with SAP - business software
Minitab statistical software program
