Title: Bench Hand
Reports To: Finish Area Supervisor
Status: Full-Time/Hourly (40 hours/week; additional hours as needed to support organization and individual goals)
Job Summary
A Finish Bench Hand polishes die bearings and housing cores and fits the two together to meet blueprint specifications. This includes shape and/or hollow dies.
Essential Job Functions
- Finish polish housing core and finish polish die. Bolt the job together, job is pinned out properly as needed to ream pinholes.
- After a job has been reamed, pin job again, checking that all sizes are within tolerance, then insert pins to hold die to housing.
- Record values of final pin out and inspect die and housing according to work instructions and to blueprint specifications.
- Hone die and housing combination if needed. When complete, clean parts and do final inspection according to work instructions.
- Send job to next area according to process.
- Finish polish and hone shape dies as necessary to remove die lines, pits, start marks, and any undesirable flaws.
- Clean job of hone and any writing on die.
- Pin job, assuring that all sizes are within tolerance and record values according to work instructions and blueprint specifications. Send job to Blanchard Grinder.
- Other duties include housekeeping to ensure a safe and productive working atmosphere and others specified by supervision.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma, or equivalent
- Self-Motivated
- Ability to read and interpret documents and follow in-depth oral and written instructions
- Ability to complete basic math functions
- Ability to recognize any discrepancies in work
- Communication skills
