The Career Coach/Navigator is responsible for providing direct services to the customer: outreach, recruitment, registration, enrollment, career assessment, job search assistance, resume writing, goal setting, supportive services, referral, training, case management, retention, and follow-up. The Career Coach will guide their customers through researching the labor market, career pathways, barrier removal, partner services, resource attainment, training selection, and job placement. May assist in AJC Resource Room to identify career opportunities related to the grant while serving job seekers. Will be required to work a flexible schedule and at various locations when needed to cover special events and accommodate customers’ schedules. The Career Coach will be responsible for meeting specific program goals.
Overview of duties:
· Establish contacts within the community to recruit eligible customers. Ensure that contracted goals are met or exceeded. Works closely with the Career Navigators to connect customers to training opportunities.
· Instruct customers with the Pure Michigan Talent Connect process and screen for opportunities available through the program.
· Conduct orientation/information sessions on available opportunities, complete prescreening to determine suitability and eligibility for services. Perform registration of customers into program, ensuring that enrollment, and all available activity goals including training are met. Gathering necessary support documents and tracking training progress including attendance and completion/credential attainment.
· Inform customers of all available options, opportunities, and corresponding program requirements including eligibility determination. Will assist and/or refer customers who do not meet suitability or enrollment requirements, as requested. Maintain working knowledge of eligibility and service availability of programs operated by the American Job Center and partners to provide customers with accurate information when making referrals.
Responsible for providing career research and planning, advising in employment and training options, conducting needs assessment, recording customer needs, activity plans, and goals and performing customer assessment. Provides job search assistance to customers including one-on-one job search assistance.
· Provide career development guidance to customers, administer assessments, and explain assessment results.
· Responsible for completing accurate and timely registration and/or certification of customers for various programs in compliance with funding source and other applicable regulations. Complete timely data entry into database, entering customer status, activities, supportive service, and other relevant information.
· Responsible for maintaining updated knowledge of all programmatic regulations including Federal, State, and local policies and procedures for the program and those operated within the (AJC) as well as new programs as they become available.
· Responsible for conducting active case management and follow-up of all program customers. Active participation in case management meetings. Maintain regular customer contact and provide applicable case management services and track planned services.
· Maintain working knowledge of available community resources and networking with community agencies to allow for immediate referral of customers who need additional services. Complete supportive service requests when outside agencies cannot provide needed resources.
· Complete all necessary paperwork for enrollments, activities and training, including support documentation. Meet or exceed program goals for all activities.
· Conduct Workshops including arranging for guest speakers and employers as appropriate. Develop and present specialized workshops relating to job search techniques, career development, labor market information, career research, training opportunities and other relevant topics to assist customers.
· Visit training sites and schools. Assist in program outreach / special events including Education and Training Fairs, Community Resource Events and Job Fairs.
· Work with Career Navigators and Business Service Representatives (BSRs) to match customers to current job orders. Assist BSRs with work-based training contracts and support documentation.
· Maintain thorough understanding of program performances measures to ensure that customers are placed appropriately according to performance measure requirements.
· Will assist in filling current openings and work-based training opportunities with program customers. Coordinate and assist with special events. Provide prescreened referrals for open orders. Meet or exceed placement goals set forth. Work cooperatively with DCC team during the coordination of large-scale hiring events.
· Responsible for performing follow-up to reach customers during post program follow-up in accordance with established procedures and programmatic regulations. Work with customers to ensure they are re-employed in a timely manner.
· Attend meetings as required. Attend relevant workshops and training for professional development as requested.
