Position Summary
This position leads employer development activities broadly for the Career Services Network in conjunction with The Center at the College of Engineering, the Russell Palmer Career Management Center in the College of Business, The Graduate School, and all colleges represented by CSN College Assistant Directors. Develops operational policies and procedures, long and short-term planning. Directs job search and professional preparation programs for students. Spearheads CSN communications including social media, central newsletter, employer communications and Handbook. Leads team to accomplish goals, assess effectiveness, and implement improvements.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Develops and implements career services that assist students in attaining competitive placement upon graduation.
- Primary responsibility for maintaining and expanding relationships with employers recruiting MSU graduates, as well as formulating strategies to assist them in meeting recruitment goals.
- In conjunction with Corporate Foundations and Relations office, plans and facilitates on- and off-campus employer visits to connect faculty, administration and student groups with employers.
- Coordinates with Deans, Chairs and Faculty to report recruitment trends and employer recruitment strategies.
- Creates and manages effective budget for career events.
- Guides creation and execution of marketing plans to increase awareness of professional preparation programs through both print and social media.
- Collects and analyzes data to determine employer relations strategy.
- Collaborates with Corporate and Foundation Relations to fundraise for Career Services Network.
- Prepares letters, brochures, articles and reports, and delivers presentations about career services to constituents.
- Supervises full time staff of Employer Engagement Center at the Stadium.
Communications and Interpersonal Relationships:
- Interacts with students to convey information, advise on aspects of job search, and solicit feedback on programs.
- Interacts with Deans, faculty and other colleagues to inform about programs, services and resources, as well as status of relationships with specific employers.
- Consults with employer representatives regarding recruiting strategies relative to hiring targets.
- Interacts with public to respond to inquiries and promote awareness of Destination Outcomes and Career Services activities.
- Interacts with Executive Director, fellow Associate Director, Assistant Directors, to coordinate activities, communicate progress, and plan initiatives.
- Provides first-level supervision of regular employees.
Responsibility for the Work of Others
- Provides first-level supervision of regular employees and may provide second level supervision over student employees.
Responsibility for the Health/Safety of Others
- No assigned responsibility.
Impact on Programs/Services/Operations
- Inefficient processes and ineffective communications could result in the loss of career opportunities for students. Inefficient and ineffective services and programs could negatively impact desired outcomes and damage the image of the Career Services Network.
Work Environment
- Standard office environment. This position requires very little physical effort.
All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a Master's degree in education, business, human resources, or a related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in counseling/advising, and public speaking; familiarity with budgets, project management and supervision techniques; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be prepared to travel up to 30 days outside of the office.

Work Hours
