Job Description Summary
The Merchandising Coordinator supervises day-to-day operations, performs tasks in merchandising specialty area, and supports the smooth delivery of products and services. The Merchandising Coordinator performs all duties at any location within the Merchandising Department with a commitment to the highest level of customer service and total satisfaction of all customers, including transforming the services provided to Michigan Tech Students.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
Support the financial performance of the operation through the careful execution of purchasing, receiving, pricing, sale, and distribution of products and services.
Responsible for the oversight and direction of procurement and distribution of products for resale and services.
Maintain a clean, attractive, and professional store appearance.
Select and work with suppliers to ensure that they efficiently and effectively provide needed goods and services within budgetary limits.
Follow departmental policies and procedures, and support departmental goals and objectives.
Lead and oversee the general merchandising and display of products for resale. Create special displays that highlight products that are the focus of promotions.
Assist with planning work schedules. Provide direct or functional supervision of department support staff and students.
Conduct surveys and market research to identify customer trends and demographic data. Analyze data and evaluate key performance metrics to determine success and shape future purchasing strategies.
Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
? Associate Degree in business, graphic design, or another related discipline OR a combination of education and experience considered to equal an Associate Degree.
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
? Proven history of providing excellent customer service.
? One year supervisory experience in a retail setting.
? Experience using advanced features of word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
? Knowledge of higher education merchandise.
? Strong graphic design skills
? Collegiate Retailing Management (CRM) certificate or experience with college merchandising or retail.
? Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
? Exhibit solid financial judgment and ability to work with numbers
? Bachelor's Degree in business, graphic design, or another related discipline
