This position is a part time care management clinical social worker with the inpatient team for the Children?s & Women?s Hospital (C&W). The social worker in the float role will provide coverage for unit based social workers to ensure sufficient social work staffing in service to our patients and families. Care Management Social Work services include but are not limited to the following: biopsychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, fetal or reproductive loss, end of life, grief and loss, assessment of coping, medical literacy, abuse assessment and referral to CPS, accessing resources to facilitate hospital transitions and/or discharges, adoption coordination, linkage to community agencies, mental health assessments, tangible resources, participation in team meetings and educational activities related to the needs of patients and their families..

A Master's degree (MSW) in social work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education is required. Candidates must have a current clinical license (LMSW or LLMSW) to practice Social Work in the State of Michigan. It is essential that the candidate be able to manage a large caseload with multiple competing demands. The ability to work independently in a variety of stressful and demanding situations is essential; critical decision making, excellent assessments, brief interventions and multi-tasking are only several of the advanced skills required for success. Additionally, the ability to provide high-level interventions while also meeting basic tangible and concrete needs is required. The successful candidate must also be able to work with multidisciplinary teams and access community resources in order to facilitate discharge planning. Experience providing crisis intervention, grief counseling, and end-of-life discussions are essential, along with brief interventions to facilitate patient and family participation in appropriate health care decision making.
LMSW is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have significant medical social work experience, strong assessment skills, the ability to establish therapeutic relationships quickly, and to relate well to a diverse population. It is essential that the candidate be able to manage a large caseload with multiple competing demands. Hours are 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM rotating weekdays. Holiday rotation coverage is required.
