Job Overview
We are currently looking for a Model Makerto join our team in Holland.
As a Model Maker, you will:
Apply machine operating skills and knowledge of materials and processes to fabricate appearance models, functional prototypes of new concepts, and prototype dies or fixtures. Assist with project design, development, installation, problem solving, and documentation of new and/or existing processes, equipment, and tooling. Meet established quality and performance standards by applying engineering principles and low-cost manufacturing processes. Analyze blueprints, sketches, or verbal requests to determine processes, tooling, sequence of operations, and materials required to complete tasks and establish acceptable completion date with requestor.
Responsibilities
Analyzes blueprints, sketches, or verbal requests to determine processes, tooling, sequence of operations, and materials required to complete tasks and establish acceptable completion date with requestor.
Designs and builds special tooling and fixtures required to fabricate prototype parts and performs machine set-up for fabricating operations.
Advises engineers and designers of design discrepancies and manufacturing process limitations. Makes recommendations for improvement of part function or manufacturability to ensure lower-cost parts and high quality Haworth products.
Fabricates inspection gauges and fixtures to check quality of parts or hold parts for machining or assembly work.
Monitors and controls work flow through area of responsibility, allowing for minimal management of work by supervisor. Monitors work of other Model Makers in area to ensure parts are completed on time and manufactured to tolerance.
Performs preventative maintenance of Model Shop equipment used and general housekeeping of work area, requiring frequent bending and occasional ladder climbing to meet Haworth standards
Assists with on-the-job training of lower-level Model Makers and department apprentices to ensure appropriate usage of equipment in area and assist apprentices with achievement of journeyman status. May act as lead person and provide day-to-day direction to lower-level Model Makers.
Advises supervisor in determining scope of outside support required; contacts appropriate vendors, establish cost, provide instructions, and monitor progress.
Do you have these required qualifications?
High School Diploma or GED
Certified journeyman Model Maker, Tool and Die Maker, Sheet Metal Worker, Patternmaker, or equivalent (equivalent is 6 years of manufacturing trade experience)
Minimum of 3 years related experience
Current and continuing right to work in the United States without sponsorship
Ability to work in Holland, MI without relocation assistance
Do you have these preferred qualifications?
Upholstery / Pattern Making Experience
CAD experience; Pro E or AutoCAD a plus
SolidWorks experience
Exactflat experience
Ideally, you have also demonstrated the following:
Engineering principles and practices.
Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GDT) and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Ability to read blueprints to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) drafting practices
PC and keyboard/mouse skills
