POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for participants in group fitness classes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Instruct group fitness classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines, promote the YMCA’s healthy mind, body, and spirit philosophy.
2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with staff and participants; Encourages participant involvement.
3. Come to class prepared with necessary teaching materials, routines, and skills, but also allow for flexibility.
4. Develop and learn group fitness routines.
5. Instruct class in proper sequence with safe physical education principles and techniques.
6. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, battery log, etc.).
7. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
8. Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
9. Maintain current certification(s).
10. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety
procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
11. Use personal initiative for growth through related study, seminars, workshops, and training events.
12. Share with other staff the responsibility for membership through promotion and sales to class participants.
13. Be available to instruct 1-2 group fitness classes a week.
14. Perform all other duties assigned by the Health & Wellness Coordinator.
